Web Developer

We’re looking for a talented full stack PHP/WordPress web developer to join our Digital Services team. Currently working in a ‘hybrid’ (mix of office-based and home-working) environment, but working closely with the wider GBW digital, creative and PR teams, you will be developing, maintaining and enhancing WordPress websites for an impressive portfolio of clients.

The Role

You’ll work as part of our development team alongside experienced developers, designers and marketing professionals creating highly engaging and creative content across a wide variety of digital channels including web, mobile and tablet (for iOS and Android).

Working closely with experienced colleagues you’ll be confident in taking a brief and considering the development implications of what the client expects. Following this, you will work with account handlers to scope and plan the project or task timelines and carry out the development work efficiently and within our development processes.

Main duties

  • Building, enhancing and maintaining CMS-driven websites designed to work across mobile, tablet and desktop.
  • Responsible for planning development tasks and managing your time accordingly.
  • Responsible for carefully scoping new development tasks to ensure accurate time and budget estimates.
  • Helping website clients with desk CMS support.
  • Advising senior team on all development/technical matters.
  • Working closely with our Digital Account Director to ensure smooth delivery of all digital campaigns, SEO work and web projects.

Essential skills:

  • Experience working in a similar role
  • WordPress development
  • PHP, HTML, jQuery, JavaScript, CSS and pre-processors (SASS or LESS).
  • MySQL.
  • A good understanding of UI/UX.
  • Experience of Bootstrap or other responsive design and development techniques.
  • Version control (Git).
  • Any experience utilising either React, VueJS or Angular
  • Usage of CSS pre-processors (SCSS)
  • Understanding of QA processes such a browser / device testing
  • Experience creating AWS architecture and ideology

Desirable skills:

  • SEO
  • Familiarity with Sketch and other industry standard design tools.
  • Google Tag Manager


At least two years’ experience working within an agency environment or similar.

The desired candidate will have basic client management and liaison experience as well as a keen eye for detail and a calm head. If you have a process-driven, can-do attitude and are eager to learn then we would love to hear from you.
