GBW and The North Yorkshire Moors Railway
In January of this year we were appointed by the North Yorkshire Moor Railway (NYMR), to look after the PR for its campaigns throughout 2016.
Always trying to make PR fun where possible and to celebrate April Fools’ Day, we issued a story which said that the attraction had created a canine carriage, strictly for dogs. This imaginary carriage came fully equipped with a treats trolley, offering the most scrumptious goodies, and a puppy privy, to save the train from needing to make any tactical pit stops.
The press took to this story straight away and it received national and regional coverage, from The Guardian, The Mirror, and CBBC Newsround, to the Yorkshire Times and The Yorkshire Coast Radio.
Not only that, the story also resulted in some very funny phone calls being made to our office, with many thinking that it was a great idea that should be put into actual practice!
Sue Bailey, Managing Director, said: “April Fools’ Day is always a great day to take advantage of and offers a fantastic opportunity to get some quirky stories out to the press. When we thought up this idea we knew it was a must and it has definitely paid off with the coverage we have received. That’s what happens when you combine a great story with good press relationships!”
