Public Consultation and Stakeholder Engagement for Intu’s Shopping Centre in Watford

The Brief

We were hand-picked to support intu with a planning application to install automatic doors across two ends of a public right of way through its Watford shopping centre, after the client had received negative feedback during a former attempt to gain permission.

The Results

We implemented a best-practice communications strategy to engage with all relevant interest groups, ranging from local councillors to nearby traders and intu customers, clearly promoting the key messages behind the reasons for the automatic doors and seeing each group individually during a range of consultation events.

The team’s work resulted in a former objector at the county council supporting the plans and advocating them to others, whilst the public consultation event highlighted safety benefits to customers, which ultimately led to a planning approval at committee.
